Reduction in running costs

London cab operators, who are running Jaymic converted LPG Fairway and TXI cabs, have found the fuel cost savings are in the region of 3p to 5p per mile.

Engine oil is staying cleaner for longer with the LPG fuelling. At present we are recommending that the oil is changed at the same service interval as the diesel version. We may find that we can increase the recommended oil change interval. This will reduce waste-oil pollution and save servicing costs.

Evidence of durability of the system once in service

With the cabs in service for the last three years there have been no major problems. The engines themselves have given no problems at all. The stresses on the converted engine are dramatically less than the diesel version; now being spark ignition rather than compression ignition. The cylinder head and pistons on the first taxi were removed for inspection of the integrity of conversion at 30,000 miles and no problems were found. The total mileage of the taxis in service is now getting on for a million miles.
